El juego


"After its neglect by two centuries of rational dogmatism, perhaps the time has come to restore this ars to its ancient vocation of serving as an ancillary art, which may be useful to many disciplines, including law and its most extravagant variant, international law. Rhetoric is not just the art of persuasion. It is not just about manipulating texts, and it is not just about words. Words are connecting factors. Behind them are ideas, concepts, and categories. Rhetoric is not just playing with words. It’s about establishing connections, tracing similarities and creating intellectual frameworks (which I would venture, is pretty much the work of a generalist in our discipline). Ultimately, it may be regarded, in the words of Cicero, as the art of finding. That is the way I meant to use it ... "
